Lagotto Breed Standard
Meet the Lagotto – The Lagotto (lah-GO-toe) is a medium-sized, curly-coated dog originally bred in Italy for truffle hunting. Now, they make great family pets due to their friendly, trainable nature and allergy-friendly coats.
Size & Appearance – Lagotti are compact, weighing 24-35 pounds, with a dense, curly coat in colors like white, brown, or orange. Their teddy bear looks require regular grooming to keep them tangle-free.
Temperament – Affectionate and intelligent, Lagotti bond deeply with their families and enjoy tasks like scent games or hikes. They’re alert but not aggressive, making them excellent with kids and non-yappy watchdogs.
Activity Needs – Active but not hyper, they need daily walks, playtime, and mental stimulation to stay happy.
Grooming & Shedding – Their non-shedding coat requires regular grooming, similar to a doodle but with more predictability.
Good to Know – Lagotti thrive in active homes and need plenty of attention and enrichment. Early socialization and positive training help them excel.
